Youth & Community Performances Program

The Youth & Community Performances (Y&CP) program enhances multicultural and arts education in San Luis Valley schools through music, drama, arts, and other performances and interactive experiences. Now in its fifth year, the program continues to bring diverse performances to 14 San Luis Valley area school districts and various community venues. Because of this program, thousands of students get to experience the arts every year. Besides booking and managing the acts, Crestone Performances subsidizes 50% to 100% of the cost of the performances.

Past performances include:

  • Australian Bush Poets
  • Celtic duo Peace & Love & Jigs & Reels
  • Cuban music ensemble Valle Son
  • Flamenco dancer Ana Christensen
  • Japanese Taiko Drummers of Shumei International Institute
  • Motoman Robotics Troupe
  • Western Sky Portable Planetarium
  • Bones Percussion
  • Tobatana Marimba Ensemble
  • Celtic duo Sprout
  • Still Water Steel Drum Band
  • African Kora Player Kane Mathis

Y&CP also participated in a very exciting event in the fall of 2007. The Gangteng Monastery from the Himalayan country of Bhutan sent Pema Lingpa Treasure Dances, a 14-piece dance and music ensemble to the United States for the first time. We produced their performances in more than 10 schools and communities in northern New Mexico and Colorado. This was the largest undertaking ever for our Y&CP program.
